BetaCup - Starbucks Sponsored Competition to Solve the Disposable Cup Problem

When we started to look for a collapsible coffee cup back in 2011, we came across the BetaCup contest website launched in 2010 (www.betacup.com).

We reviewed all the concepts, but none of them did what we were setting out to do. It was a bit intimidating because we weren't designers and a lot of the competitors were designers and engineers. Still, we knew that our envisioned cup was exactly what we wanted and no one seemed to be working on anything like it.

Since then, we learned just how hard it is to develop a product from scratch. Especially something that you have zero experience with (like collapsible silicone cup design). But at the same time, it's been an amazing, life changing experience.

We wish we could somehow get Starbucks attention and convince them to test our Stojos in some of their shops. We are a small company, but we've shown that we can innovate and execute on our vision. Imagine if we could somehow get into 23,000 Starbucks stores worldwide... and if every shop sold 4 cups a week... that would be 4.6 million Stojos... which (assuming each Stojo toting customer drank 1 cup per day) would be enough to prevent 1.7 billion cups (about half of all Starbucks annual disposable cup waste) from entering the waste stream!

That's a game changer!
