Composting 101

At its roots (pun not intended), composting is the natural process of decay for organic matter. All organic matter—that being, carbon-based substances—break down and return to the cycle of life. This process happens all day, everyday, all around us without us noticing or really having to do anything. If you go to a park and watch leaves be broken up on the ground, that’s decomposition at work. It’s part of Mother Nature’s design.

The founders, Holger Graf and Daniel Lantz, have a refreshingly low-ego way of viewing sustainability - believing that it should be far less about finger-pointing and far more about spontaneity and fun. Person to Follow: Isaias Hernandez

As someone who grew up in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles to immigrant Mexican parents, Isaias Hernandez was no stranger to environmental injustices. After completing a degree in Environmental Science at the University of California, Berkeley, Isais co-created Alluvia Magazine - an environmental magazine that highlights BIPOC environmentalists. Queer Brown Vegan is his brainchild - an educational outlet and safe space for other likeminded individuals to discuss issues surrounding environmentalism, veganism, intersectionality, zero-waste, and everything in between. We spoke with Isaiah to learn about his platform and about how he practices environmentalism in his daily life.
